A little slice of heaven
Many of us can recall what we judge as our sweetest moments - the perfect kiss, the perfect picture, the first time you said "I love you" to that someone and on and on.
But how many of us can recall the sweetest thing we've ever eaten? The thing that made your mouth melt and want more. That thing we can't get enough of, but know is soooo unhealthy to eat.
I know mine. It was a perfect dessert rolled into that perfect moment.
Now in fair disclosure - I don't know if it was the perfect moment that made the dessert perfect to eat, but the two were connected, so that may have some effect.
It was the evening I was to get engaged to my sweetheart. We'd left Waco and had gotten all gussied-up (Texan for dressed up) for the evening. He took me to Fort Worth to dine at the ultra-refined Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse (seen to the left). There's only a handful of these restaurants out in the world - and if you're lucky enough to ever eat there, pay close attention to what follows.
After a wonderful round meal we ordered dessert. And, while I didn't know it at the time... my life would soon change. I simply had ordered the cheesecake - but they brought me the most perfect piece of mouth-watering moist food fit for the gods. It was heaven on a pretty little plate.
And I've since eaten there again and had the cheesecake and it's just as good the second time around. No cheesecake has beaten it. Some may be good - but not up to the standard set.
So here's to cheesecake - in all varieties. Some are good, some are great and then there's one that's perfect. But no matter what - it's cheesecake. And it's all good to me.
