Treating yourself

I went with a friend yesterday evening to get a pedicure. Now, this is nothing new for me, I've been getting pedicures ever since my friends Vicki and Vicki (yes, that's correct) got me hooked on them one summer along the winding roads of a C.A.R. regional tour.

A great source of stress relief and rejuvenation, the time spent in the spa chair is always welcomed and enjoyed.

Now for those of you who are still pedicure virgins, go now. Do not pass go, do not collect your $200. (Well, stop for the money if offered.) It's worth every penny and is a good way to treat yourself after a long day or week at work or a good way to put that list of errands out of your mind, even if only for a little while.

Some tips - be sure the place you go to is CLEAN and that you've got recommendations to go on. Walking in on a place that you've never been into can be good, but it also could be very bad. Just do a little homework.

Also, make sure the technician can speak a language you fully understand. I am not trying to be ugly here, just pointing out some common sense things. If you can't communicate with them, how could you tell them it's too hot or uncomfortable or that's not the color you want? I know, it sounds goofy, but it does matter. Screaming at someone in a foreign language, while still communicating, is not always effective in getting a message across.

And one last recommendation, pay the extra few bucks for a nice pedicure and a nicer facility. What you pay for is what you're going to get. If you're going to skimp, you'll get a skimpy pedicure and a possibility that the salon is skimping on things like sanitation and cleanliness. Pay the extra few bucks to ensure a safe and clean pedicure with extra steps that make you feel even better.

And pedicures have an added bonus for the foot phobes out there like me... it keeps you from having to scrub and clip and touch your own feet. Not that I can't or won't touch my own feet, but I don't find it pleasant and I absolutely refuse to touch someone else's. So, to keep your own hands footy-germ free and to squeeze in some relaxation, go get a pedicure today and enjoy.
