The Yellow Rose of Texas

Yep, folks, I'm headed back to my native land today. So for fun here's some quick Texas facts (again -thanks Wikipedia).

state flower: the bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis)
state motto : "Friendship"
state nickname: The Lone Star State (after the single star on several historical flags of Texas, including the current Texas flag, because Texas was an independent country before becoming a US state) also The Friendship State
state tree: the pecan
state bird: the mockingbird
official
state song: Texas Our Texas
state mammals :(three)
small -
armadillo
large -
Texas longhorn (cattle)
flying -
Mexican free-tailed bat

And to go along with fun facts - here are two tidbits of trivia (thanks to my hubby):

1. Texas is the only state in the union that is allowed, should it ever want to, to divide itself up into 6 different states. It was part of the agreement when we joined the United States and dissolved the Republic of Texas.

2. Armadillos have 4 babies in every litter and all of the 4 will be the same sex every time.

So there - you've learned something new today. Now, go and have a safe Memorial Day weekend and I'll catch back up with you on Tuesday!
