Gosh officer, I don't know where that came from...
College... what can we say about college?
Sure there were classes, but there's so much more to college than class. There's late night runs to Waffle House, random late-night serenadings complete with maracas and sombrero, and always the random road signs magically appearing in our apartment.
Now, this was no ordinary apartment. It was the Baylor Landing #88. Ahhh, yes. Many good times were held in that place.Like the acquiring of all the road signs. It actually didn’t start with road signs. It was all due to a road cone. My roommate and I were out driving and came across a lonely little orange road cone. Actually, it wasn’t little. It was one of those tall ones with the reflective tape. SCORE! It looked great in our little brown-paneled palace.
Then we somehow got a Fort Worth Water Department cone. And more and more came.
And sure enough, one day I came home to a small barricade and bright orange construction sign. This was not my doing, but I didn’t protest. And more and more came.Over my two years at the Landing the collection grew. We had quite an eclectic collection of things – not just road signs.
At some point or another we had a Gone With the Wind cardboard stand up, a Harrison Ford stand up, the Three Stooges Stand ups, a bed in the living room, road cones, road signs, Krispy Kreme hats, Waffle House hats, Christmas lights, Mardi-Gras beads, movie posters and lots of photos. It really was home.
How great was apartment 88? It was the best of times… and it’s where my hubby first walked into my life. Unfortunately, where the apartment once stood is now a huge dorm and parking garage – but that place will always be in my memories.
So here’s to college and my time at the Baylor Landing - complete with "art."
