Who wants to go for a swim?

Here’s your fun little fact for the day. According to recent research done by Proctor and Gamble – Phoenix’s adult residents sweat so much that the city's perspiration could fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool in less than three hours.

Isn’t that a lovely thought? But according to the study, this is the second year in a row Phoenix has earned the dubious honor of topping the Top 100 Sweatiest Cities list.

Yummy.
The results were based on the amount of sweat an adult of average height and weight would produce while walking for an hour in the average high temperatures, according to NOAA data.

During a typical summer day in 2005, an average Phoenix adult secreted 26 ounces of sweat per hour while walking outdoors. Of course, Phoenix's average high temperature during the summer months for 2005 was 93.3 degrees.

That’s a day and night average there folks. Compare that to #100 on the list, San Francisco - it checked in at a mild and breezy 63.2 degrees during the same months.

Don’t think I’ll be moving to Phoenix anytime soon.

Below are the top 10:

Phoenix

Las Vegas

Tucson

Dallas

Corpus Christi

San Antonio

Austin

Shreveport

Houston

Waco

Isn’t that nice? Out of the top 10, six are in Texas. Hmmmm, and we wonder why I’m now in Virginia…

Other cities making the top 100 list: Honolulu at 16, St. Louis at 33, Washington, D.C. at 39, New York at 62, Chicago at 70; Boston at 86; Denver at 87, and Los Angeles at 92.

Also in the study: the top 10 list of most uncomfortable cities based on heat index. From the top: Miami, Corpus Christi; Orlando; Phoenix; West Palm Beach.; Houston; San Antonio; New Orleans; Tampa; and Fort Meyers.

So there – now you know where to go to if you want to melt and where to avoid should you want to stay sweat-free.
