And I didn't

So shoot me. I didn't get the vacation photos up. Didn't even make it to the computer to act like I was. But regardless, I had a wonderful weekend.

Saturday the hubby and I got out on our boat. Now I use the term "boat" very loosely. It's officially a Craig Cat - which is a nice name for a glorified two-seater catamaran. I didn't take the camera - as everything on the vessel gets wet (as the hubby says, "intimate with the elements").

Here's a pic of a Craig Cat which has a much larger motor than ours, better seats and a lot less fishing gear.

So anyway, Saturday I worked on my tan while the hubby fished and caught a few tiny ones here and there. It was a pretty nice time, as long as you don't mind getting wet.

Then Sunday we went to the annual Waterman's Festival in Yorktown. The hubby was there as a rep for the school for a blood pressure screening booth and I was along for the ride. The day's big highlights were:

  • Working Boat races (and with diesel $4.75 a gallon, I imagine these weren't cheap to put on) - complete with a very rowdy crowd and the most red-necked awards ceremony I've ever attended.
  • A crab race to benefit the Waterman's Museum. We bought a $10 crab to race and named him Hermie. Which, no, he wasn't a hermit crab. Hermie took second but did beat out another crab named Texas Longhorn. That's even better than winning in my book.

  • And the best highlight - SNOWCONES!!! Why snowcones? Because it's pretty close to impossible to find a snowcone stand around here. I remember growing up as a kid with a snowcone stand just down the street and riding my bike down to get one. And when that one went out of business - there was always another one just a quick jaunt down the road by car. We moved out here to Virginia in 2004 and this is seriously the first snowcone stand we've found - despite looking for now our 5th summer. So, I had a black cherry bubblegum mix and the honey had a lemon-lime. All of it took me back to being a kid grinding away on our Snoopy Sno-cone machine for some sticky sweet treats. Anyone else remember that thing? My mom may still even have ours somewhere buried deep in the laundry room...

All in all, it was a pretty fun weekend. And I promise, I'll get those cruise pics up sometime.

I totally had one of those Snoopy Sno Cone machines!!! I recall my mom strategically storing it out of my line of vision so that I wouldn't ask to use it often. I think she would rather go down the street (quite possibly to the same stand you mention) and BUY me one than have me get the counter and floors all sticky. hehehe I had forgotten all about that... good times...

Oh, and the Craig Cat looks like a lot of fun. Definitely easier to maintain than a boat, that's for sure!
